Creative and fire-retardant cladding for CURAM

23/06/2026

Timber cladding, Class B reaction to fire and a subtle, coloured finish? This project for CURAM, a mental health clinic located in Ypres, proves that Class B fire standards can go hand-in-hand with architectural freedom and materials that appeal to the senses.

For this new-build project, BEEL Architecten opted for a combination of wood and concrete. The cladding in thermo pine was given a subtle, green oil finish, enabling the building to blend harmoniously into the green surroundings. The wood also adds a touch of warmth and reinforces the calm and caring nature of the building.

We are proud of this project which is a perfect illustration of how reaction to fire requirements and architectural freedom can go hand-in-hand. The subtle colour finish lends warmth and expressiveness to the façade and proves that, even when there are strict requirements, there’s still room for character. Thanks to our fire-retardant wood cladding and certified coloured finishes, architects are still free to choose the colour and materials that appeal to the senses for a façade that blends in with its surroundings, whether for non-residential buildings or other projects requiring a specific reaction to fire rating.

WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR NEXT PROJECT FOR A FAÇADE WITH REACTION TO FIRE REQUIREMENTS TO HAVE MORE COLOUR AND CHARACTER?

We’d be happy to help you choose the certified timber most appropriate to your project.
